Fun experiment: watch yourself drink. Are you gulping with big, wet swallows? Each swallow isn’t just water—it’s a secret party of air bubbles.
You can swallow up to half a cup of air with a single big chug. That air has to come out. And it will, with loud, embarrassing drama.
Causes
That trapped air is often mistaken for “indigestion pain.” It’s just gas, but it feels like your stomach is staging a protest.
The “Too Soon” Problem
Drink water right after a meal? Bad move. Your stomach is already busy breaking down that burrito. Adding water is like throwing a pool party during a final exam.
Your stomach has to choose: digest the food or process the liquid. It tries to do both, and everything gets sloshy. Sloshy = bloated = unhappy you.
Solution: wait 20–30 minutes. Let your food settle. Or drink water before you eat, when your stomach is empty and patient.
