Your metabolism is basically your body’s internal furnace. Some people have a roaring fire in there; others—like us—are working with a few damp logs. A slower metabolism produces less heat.
So when you’re sitting still, your body isn’t generating enough warmth. You’re basically a lukewarm potato. Not a fun potato.
Blame genetics, blame age, or blame that afternoon nap you took. But it’s a real thing, and it explains why you’re reaching for a blanket in July.
Could It Be… Your Thyroid?
Okay, let’s get a little serious for one second (promise we’ll be silly again soon). Your thyroid is the control center for your body’s temperature. If it’s underactive—a condition called hypothyroidism—everything slows down.
Including your heat production. You’ll feel cold even when everyone else is fine. Are you also tired all the time? Or gaining weight without trying? Might be worth a chat with your doctor.
But don’t panic! It’s super common and very treatable. I’m not saying you have it—I’m just saying, maybe don’t rule it out if you’re always chilly.
