Here’s the thing: baseball time is a little like a weather forecast for your couch. You have a general idea, but there’s always a chance for a little chaos. The actual first pitch can drift because of rain, a long pregame ceremony, or even a really extra national anthem singer.
But don’t worry. For a standard game, the start time is usually one of three flavors: a 7:10 PM evening affair, a 4:10 PM late afternoon matinee, or that glorious 1:35 PM weekday escape. Is there anything better than a 1:35 game? It feels like you’re stealing a sunny afternoon from the work week.
The “Why” Behind the When
Why does it matter so much? Because knowing the time changes your entire vibe. A 7:10 PM start is for dinner and a show—a perfect, low-key evening ritual. A 4:10 PM start? That’s the “golden hour” of baseball, where the shadows stretch across the grass and the game feels like a lazy Sunday, even if it’s a Tuesday.
And the 1:35 PM start? That’s a little rebellion against the clock. It’s the game you listen to on the radio while you’re supposed to be doing something else. You’ll find yourself grinning at a crackling play-by-play, and no one will know.
