Sure, you can get standard geraniums anywhere. But this place stocks rare perennials and exotic ferns that make your garden look like a Victorian explorer’s fever dream. I found a Hellebore there once that looked like it belonged in a gothic novel—dark purple petals, almost black. I bought three. My neighbours thought I was starting a coven. (I’m not, but now I have the aesthetic.)
They also have a Japanese maple section that will ruin you. You’ll walk in thinking “I don’t need a £80 tree,” and walk out with one strapped to the roof of your car. The trick is to bring a friend who can talk you out of it—or just embrace the impulse. Life’s short, and maples are beautiful.
The seasonal pop-ups that steal your wallet
One thing I love—and hate—is how they rotate themes. In spring, it’s all dahlias and begonias; in autumn, pumpkins and ornamental cabbages. They even do Christmas trees with a mulled wine stand in December. I once spent an hour choosing a fir tree while sipping hot cider and pretending I was in a Hallmark movie. The irony? I bought the tree, drove home, realized it didn’t fit in my flat, and spent the rest of December decorating it sideways in the corner. Worth every penny.
