Before you close the plug, secure the cable clamp over the outer sheath of the cord. This stops the wires from being yanked out of the terminals when you trip over the cord (which you will, probably while carrying a cup of tea). Tighten the screws until the cord doesn’t move, but don’t crush it – rubber isn’t supposed to look like toothpaste.
Now, pop the plug’s cover back on and tighten the big screw in the middle. Give it a little wiggle test: if nothing rattles or sizzles, you’re a champion. If something rattles, open it up and check your work – no shame, we’ve all been there.
